No full freeway closures are planned over the extended Fourth of July weekend, state transportation officials said.
However, travelers should anticipate heavy traffic and possible delays at times on highways in and out of the Phoenix and Tucson areas, including Interstate 10 as well as Interstate 17 north of Phoenix, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation.
The I-17 flex lanes system between Black Canyon City and Sunset Point will be open for northbound traffic this week through late Saturday and then available for southbound travel on Sunday.
