Nightly concourse work closes major route through Sky Harbor Airport

PHOENIX – Eastbound Sky Harbor Boulevard on the north side of Terminal 3 will be closed nightly through Oct. 6 to allow work to continue on a concourse project at the Phoenix airport.

The first night of the closure was Tuesday, Sept. 23, and will continue for two weeks. Work will take place from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. each day work is being done on the airport’s Terminal 3 North 2 concourse project, according to a city release.

“Specifically, contractors are installing support structures and need the 12-hour work windows nightly to complete the work safely for both the driving public and construction workers,” the release stated.

Nightly concourse work closes major route through Sky Harbor Airport

Posted

All eastbound traffic during the closures must detour through Terminal 3’s inner curb lanes, which will remain open. “Significant traffic delays are expected due to the closure of this key corridor through the airport,” officials stated in the release, adding:

  • Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time and consider dropping off and picking up at the 24th or 44th Street PHX Sky Train stations. The PHX Sky Train is free and runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
  • Heavy back-up traffic is anticipated, especially for those entering from the west side of the airport. Drivers should enter Phoenix Sky Harbor using the airport’s east entrance to avoid the closures.
  • Ground transportation at Terminal 3 will be relocated to the North inner curb, and Ride Share will be relocated to the South outer curb. Some Ride Share and other ground transportation companies may direct passengers to the 24th and 44th Street PHX Sky Train stations for drop-offs and pickups.
  • Terminal 3 garage access will be maintained on westbound Sky Harbor Boulevard, and the garage exit to eastbound Sky Harbor Boulevard will be maintained.
