Today, Waymo's new Ojai vehicle reaches an important milestone on that journey, as all riders in Phoenix can now hail a fully autonomous Ojai.
Waymo has ambitious plans to offer fully autonomous ride-hailing service in dozens of cities, and the Ojai will be a key enabler for scaling efforts.
For months, early access riders in PHX have been taking free trips in the Ojai and have provided Waymo with valuable feedback. Waymo has used their input to refine the Ojai experience and is now ready to begin commercial operations and open its wide elevator-like doors to all riders.
The current service area for Waymo vehicles includes downtown and central Phoenix, Tempe, Chandler, Gilbert, Scottsdale and a small part of Mesa.
Initially, riders may be matched with an Ojai when one is available nearby. In the future, Waymo intends to offer the option for riders to select between the Ojai and the Jaguar I-PACE, the traditional vehicle, to meet their preferences.
Like modern living rooms, the Ojai offers plenty of room, comfortable seats, and entertainment at your fingertips.
Additionally, Waymo will soon offer Ojai rides to select riders in new cities like Denver, San Diego, Las Vegas with more to come later this year.
