Express bus passengers will soon be cruising in style as Valley Metro debuts its new motorcoach fleet made for longer-distance travel.

These sleek, modern designed buses have two stairwells ascending to elevated seating with mobility-device bays located in a low-entry vestibule, according to a release.

There are several new features express riders can enjoy on their journey to and from downtown Phoenix, such as:

  • High-back, forward-facing reclining seats with arm rests
  • Seatbelts and footrests
  • USB chargers
  • Overhead personal lights, air vents and stop signal button
  • Luggage/parcel racks with built in handrails
  • Operator door/health barrier for safety.

East Valley riders will get to experience their first trip on the new bus fleet on Monday, Feb. 1. This trip will be on Route 533 – Mesa express, from Superstition Springs Transit Center leaving at 6:50 a.m.; final stop at 17th Ave./Jefferson St. at approximately 7:46 a.m.

The first trip from the West Valley will be the following Monday – February 8. This trip will be on Route 562 – Goodyear Express from Goodyear Park-and-Ride leaving at 6:11 a.m.; final stop at 17th Ave./Jefferson St. at approximately 7:10 a.m.

Everyone can be a part of the experience virtually as Valley Metro will be live streaming these trips on Facebook. Valley Metro will be receiving a total of 30 new buses replacing existing vehicles that are being retired.
