Evan Becher has been serving as Surprise’s new police chief since early June, but it became ceremonial official this week when he finally took the oath in front of a public crowd.
Becher was sworn in Aug. 5 during the city council’s first meeting since June after the council’s summer vacation last month.
“This moment marks more than a leadership transition,” City Manager Bob Wingenroth said before Becher was sworn in. “It reflects city council’s continued commitment to the police department built on respect, collaboration and public service.”
