New record set for most expensive home sold in Paradise Valley
Posted
A 5-acre estate featuring parking for 30 cars has shattered the record for the highest priced home ever sold in Paradise Valley.
The Mockingbird Lane home sold for $23.5 million.
Listed in January for $25 million, the property closed escrow only 90 days later for $23.5 million, eclipsing the prior record of $21 million set in April 2022.
Represented by luxury agent Joan Levinson, the home spans over 18,000 square feet on a single level, has two pools including an Olympic-sized lap pool, a showroom garage, two libraries, an oversized exercise room, theatre and 900-bottle wine room, according to a press release.
“It’s a truly beautiful home,” Levinson said in the release. “Exceptionally private, and although not a word I use frequently, it is majestic in its presentation.”
According to public records, the home was originally built in 2009 for car collector and chairmen of Taser International, Phillips Smith. In 2012, the property was purchased by tech entrepreneur Daniel Morrison, who’s a pioneer in social media and co-founded the early social network ITtoolbox. He’s now CEO and founder of Phanto, a social networking research and development company.
As per the listing, Morrison oversaw a meticulous remodel and renovation of the home by noted designer Michael Ferguson, the release stated.
“The renovation and remodel brought new life to an already beautiful property,” Levinson said in the release as this is the second time she’s sold the home.
“Yes, it’s true. I first sold the home in 2012 when it was owned by Mr. Smith. It was already stunning, but Mr. Morrison and Mr. Ferguson not only updated the finishes, but extensively added to and enhanced the property in total.” added Levinson.
Levinson is no stranger to breaking records in the highest ends of the luxury market. She has consistently been ranked as a "most productive real estate agent" by Valley publications and ranked No. 40 in the nation in the 2022 Real Trends as Featured in the Wall Street Journal list, according to the release.
A Paradise Valley specialist, according to MLS records, she has represented twice as many clients in residential purchases and sales over $12 million than any other agent in the state.
She had previously held the record for most expensive home sold in both Arizona and Paradise Valley, the latter was most recently eclipsed in 2022 by a $21 million sale in Cameldale represented by Walt Danley and Catherine Jacobsen.
This property itself was twice featured in the Wall Street Journal.
“The past few years have just been so exceptionally busy, especially in the luxury market,” Levinson said in the release. “At luxury price points, most buyers are paying cash and haven’t really been affected by the rise in interest rates. We still have an excess of buyers and an exceptionally tight inventory.”
Low taxes and beautiful vistas contribute to the appeal of Paradise Valley, but according to Levinson, there must be something uniquely captivating about the town. She said, “Personally, I feel incredibly fortunate to work with such exceptional clients and to live in such a lovely place that so many people wish to share in our sublime quality of life.”
