New program aims to bolster math scores in Arizona

ASU Prep, Arizona Department of Education extend partnership

An extension of a partnership between two educational entities aims to improve Arizona students’ struggling math scores.

ASU Prep Digital and the Arizona Department of Education recently announced a three-year, $9 million partnership to address math challenges across the state, particularly among middle school students. The two previously worked together on the Arizona Virtual Teacher Institute, which has trained more than 12,000 teachers to date in virtual teaching best practices amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“After the disruptions of COVID19, our educators and stakeholders know the importance of providing high-quality learning opportunities for students to help accelerate their learning, particularly in STEM based fields,” said Callie Kozlak, ADE associate superintendent of policy and government relations. “We want to ensure all of Arizona’s students master Arizona’s math standards by having access to a qualified teacher — whether that is in the classroom or through a digital platform when needed. The Math Momentum program is also positioned to offer students access to learning success coaches and an onsite instructional facilitators, which will build relationships with students, track student academic progress and wellness across indicators, and help to ensure a student’s instructional experience meets his or her unique needs and circumstances.”
