Light rail is humming down a new strip of track in downtown Phoenix where nearly half its area residents don’t have a vehicle.
The new light rail South Central Extension officially opened June 7 and it is expected to give residents options to get around town and create new avenues to south Phoenix and the organizations and businesses in that community.
Yvonne Huggard, principal at the Arizona State University Prep South Phoenix Elementary near Central and Southern avenues, said she believes the transit connection can help boost the school’s profile and enrollment.
