New Glendale council members look forward to 2025 goals

Conchas, Guzman bring different approaches

The three newest members of the Glendale City Council — including two elected in July and sworn in Dec. 10 — are Hispanic.

As one of those new council members, Lupe Conchas, was quick to point out this is a reductive way to look at how the new council might operate. After all, reporters are not asking the four Anglo council members — Mayor Jerry Weiers, Vice Mayor Lauren Tolmachoff, Ray Malnar and Bart Turner — about common experiences or if their backgrounds lead them to similar political positions.

Indeed, while Conchas is a rising name in Arizona Democrat party circles endorsed bu nine different labor unions, fellow council newcomer Dianna Guzman in a former GOP Arizona Senate candidate in Legislative District 24.
