New funding strategy considered for Tempe Public Safety Personnel Retirement System

Potential action would save the city dollars toward program

Plans for refinancing Tempe’s municipal approach to funding a retirement system for police and fire personnel were discussed at City Council’s most recent work-study session.

The Arizona Public Safety Personnel Retirement System, PSPRS, provides retirement benefits to public safety employees throughout the state. City Council followed up on the system’s funding strategies for the city’s two accounts, fire and police, after the April 27 budget review session.

Deputy City Manager and Chief Financial Officer Ken Jones presented the new funding strategy for Tempe’s PSPRS contribution to the council.
