New COVID-19 treatment offered for high-risk patients in Peoria

A new treatment is available in Peoria to ease the symptoms of high-risk COVID-19 patients and keep them out of hospitals.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Kevin Ellis said Cigna Medical Group in Peoria is among the first in Maricopa County and among the first in the country to provide this monoclonal antibody infusion therapy in a non-hospital affiliated setting.

The treatment is available through a pilot program meant for those who have had COVID-19 for less than 10 days and for those who are at higher risk for significant disease, those with chronic disease such as diabetes or those who are morbidly obese, he said.
