New city irrigation plan will reduce water use, save Glendale money

Aesthetics also will improve under drought friendly approach

With water conservation at urgent levels, the city of Glendale has found a way to beautify municipal landscaping around town, save money, and – most importantly – save water consumption, all at the same time.

The Department of Interior announced the Colorado River reached a Tier 2 shortage, which triggered additional water cuts to the state earlier this month. The Tier 2 designation means  some states’ water use will be reduced further effective this month. Arizona faces a 21% reduction in its allotment of Colorado River water, according to the Council of State Governments West.

Should a Tier 3 be declared, it would further restrict municipalities’ water usage.
