New building permits in Maricopa County up 75% year-over-year

Construction of new single-family homes is trudging along and new permits are up by 75% from last year in the Phoenix market, according to Jim Daniel, president of RL Brown Housing Reports in Phoenix.

Daniel — who specializes in new single-family homes — said there were 9,418 new building permits in 2024 compared to 5,352 from January to April 2023.

But the numbers of new builds may wind up flat once the May data comes out, Daniel said.
