An array of Arizona legislators is looking for ways to penalize educators who teach or promote antisemitism in the classroom.
Rep. Michael Way, R-Queen Creek, is sponsor of House Bill 2575, cited as the “Antisemitism in Education Act,” that creates disciplinary and civil penalties for any educator in Arizona schools who engages in antisemitic rhetoric.
The bill adopts the International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of antisemitism, which states: “Antisemitism is a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities.”
