PHOENIX – The Arizona Department of Transportation is offering three new ways for drivers to support their favorite causes.
The agency recently announced the addition of the Ovarian Cancer Awareness, Phoenix Mercury and Verde Valley Wine Trail specialty plates, bringing to 109 the number of options available. They can be viewed at azdot.gov/plates and ordered at azmvdnow.gov/plates.
“Specialty license plates offer a fun way to put that personal touch on a vehicle and show your proud support for one of these uniquely Arizona organizations,” MVD Director Eric Jorgensen said.
Most specialty plates cost $25 each year. Of that amount, $17 goes to a designated charity or nonprofit group. During the fiscal year that ended June 30, sales of specialty plates contributed more than $14.5 million to various causes and charities, according to ADOT.
This year's plates:
Ovarian Cancer Awareness
"We are thrilled to see the ovarian cancer awareness specialty plate take to the streets of Arizona. This plate is more than just a symbol – it’s a powerful reminder of the strength, dedication and unity of our community working toward ending ovarian cancer,” Amy Cojanis, regional manager of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition, said.
Phoenix Mercury
Money goes to the Phoenix Suns/Phoenix Mercury Foundation, "using the platform of basketball to provide resources and support that strengthen and unite communities across Arizona," the ADOT release stated.
Verde Valley Wine Trail
Money goes to support sustainable vineyard practices, "promoting responsible driving initiatives, as well as inspiring more people to visit and discover the beauty of northern Arizona," according to the release.
“Proceeds from the sale of the new Verde Valley Wine Trail specialty license plate will support the Verde Valley Wine Trail 501(c)3, aiding Arizona wineries and promoting sustainable farming practices,” Paula Woolsey, president of the Verde Valley Wine Consortium, said.
