Neighborhood retail shops planned at Power, University in Mesa

A site plan and rezoning for a commercial center should be approved east of Power Road on the south side of University Drive, the Mesa Planning and Zoning Board recommended recently in a 4-1 vote.

The board on Aug. 25 voted to recommend the council approve the site plan review and rezoning of 1.6 acres to limited commercial with a bonus intensity zone overlay, with board member Tim Boyle dissenting and Chair Jessica Sarkissian and board member Troy Peterson absent. The City Council will make the final decision at a future meeting.

Boyle questioned whether the proposed project is of superior quality as required in a bonus intensity zone.
