Near miss: .40-caliber bullet hole found near gas tank near Apache Junction

A local couple drives a load of water from a standpipe near Ocotillo and Apache Trail in Apache Junction four days a week to their home in unincorporated Pinal County.

Steve and Amy Matlock saw their well run dry years ago, requiring the trip from the Arizona Water Co. site.

Their drive had been uneventful until a recent Wednesday night when they were passed by an SUV near McKellips Boulevard and Winchester Road and something hit their truck.
