NBA salary rules tip Chris Paul sweepstakes in Suns’ favor

After making it back to the NBA Finals for the first time in nearly three decades this year, the Phoenix Suns came up short of their first championship.

Now, the runners-up look to run it back and end up right back in the Finals. With four out of five starters still under contract next year, that will hinge on if star point guard Chris Paul will stay with the team or opt to go elsewhere in free agency. However, the NBA’s salary rules give the Suns a serious advantage, with the ability to offer Paul more money in the short- and long-term and can likely offer far more than other top contenders.

Paul brushed off questions about his future after the Suns lost the Finals to the Milwaukee Bucks in Game 6 last Tuesday but sounded like he was ready to give it another go in Phoenix.
