National group honors Sandra Bassett

West Valley Arts CEO on list of ‘100 Black Women’

West Valley Arts President and CEO Sandra Bassett received the 2020 Economic Empowerment Legend Award at the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc’s virtual celebration in December.

Presented by the Phoenix Metropolitan Chapter, other honorees were Education Legend Colleen Jennings-Roggensack, Arizona State University vice president for cultural affairs and executive director of ASU Gammage; Health Legend LaWanda Mann, a certified nurse practitioner at Family Tree Health Clinic; and National Civic Engagement Legend Dr. Nikki Giovanni, an American poet and university distinguished professor at Virginia Tech University.

The event also featured a special message from iconic actress and producer Kim Fields.

West Valley Arts President and CEO Sandra Bassett received the 2020 Economic Empowerment Legend Award at the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc’s virtual celebration in December.

“I am incredibly honored and gratified not just to receive this deeply meaningful award but to be among such a remarkable group of women leaders who have contributed so much and are making a difference in the lives of so many,” Ms. Bassett said.

The National Coalition of 100 Black Women is a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization working through advocacy as change agents to influence policy that promotes gender equity in health, education and economic empowerment.

The organization’s vision is to see black women and girls living in a world where socio-economic inequity does not exist. There are 60 local chapters in 28 states.
