NASCAR’s Bubba Wallace to appear at Phoenix Walmart

Posted

The opening of a newly remodeled Walmart Supercenter in Phoenix will include presenting $4,000 in grants to local nonprofits plus an appearance by NASCAR racer Bubba Wallace.

The store located at 7575 W. Lower Buckeye Road will host a re-grand opening celebration at 8 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3.

The Luke Air Force Base Color Guard will perform, and the Arizona Cardinals cheerleaders and Wallace will be in attendance. Additionally, there will be performances by the Sierra Linda High School band and choir, the Mariachis Alma Nacional, and Ballet Folklorico De Santa Maria.

Walmart will also present $2,000 each to both Angels on Patrol and St. Mary’s Food Bank.

In addition to the store improvements, the Phoenix Supercenter is also getting a new mural designed and illustrated by Tony Plak and Menina. The piece reflects the diversity and local culture of Phoenix and is part of Walmart’s Community Mural Program, the largest public-facing art installation celebrating communities across America.

"This mural was inspired by the peculiar name of the city Phoenix," Tony Plak and Menina, the artists from the group Severos, shared in a press release. "The vibrant colors of its sunsets, the color of the earth that surrounds it, and its vegetation that despite the extreme weather is still standing as the hardworking people who live in this great city that every day is reborn as the phoenix bird and goes in search of a better tomorrow."

Tony Plak and Menina’s mural will be on display at Walmart at 7575 W. Lower Buckeye Road after the store’s renovation.
