NASCAR team sports racecar with name of Peoria officer

A piece of Peoria was in Kentucky when the NASCAR Xfinity Series took to the racetrack.

Mike Harmon Racing sported the name of Peoria police Officer Jason W. Judd on the No. 47 vehicle driven by Kyle Weatherman during the Shady Rays 200 at Kentucky Speedway on Thursday, July 9.

Mr. Weatherman drove to an 8th-place finish, a reported best for Mike Harmon Racing in the Xfinity Series since 2008.

Mr. Judd died July 1 after a motorcycle crash outside Liberty High School in Peoria. He is survived by his wife and two sons.

The Peoria Police Department thanked the race team and driver in social media posts Friday, July 10.

A spokeswoman for Mike Harmon Racing said Mr. Judd’s name would remain on the vehicle for the second leg of a doubleheader at Kentucky Speedway on Friday.

Services for Mr. Judd include a public viewing 6-8 a.m. Monday, July 13 at Hansen Mortuary, 8314 N. 7th St., Phoenix and the funeral at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 14 at Christ’s Church of the Valley, 7007 W. Happy Valley Road, Peoria.
