Being a teenager today in the world of advancing artificial intelligence (AI) is daunting. This technology is progressing so rapidly that I feel like my high school classes are not preparing me enough for the future.
I am scared of the possibility that I won’t have the skills necessary to get a well-paying job. I started applying to colleges this summer and am struggling to decide on an area of study. I am uncertain whether or not my college degree will be of use in a society with AI.
The history being made before our eyes is exciting and revolutionary so we need to embrace this change. We also need to plan for how it will affect students in the classroom.

The current use of AI in high schools is not helping to foster a healthy relationship between students and AI. Unfortunately, what I have seen in high school today is that AI is being treated as a tool to cut corners rather than a tool for advancement.
However, there are many positives with AI. Students have free, accessible tutors. Study guides can be created with a click of a button and an upload of class notes. Schools need adapted curriculums where AI is incorporated into learning rather than it being used to cheat on assignments.
Before I enter the workforce, I want to know as much as possible about AI. Most likely in any career I enter, AI will be necessary to get ahead. Our world is evolving and schools need to adapt so students don’t feel left behind.
