The Musical Theatre of Anthem this week will stage “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” with six performances.
An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime, a theater press release states of the production. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake.
Performances are 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21; 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22; 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 23; and noon and 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24.
The theater is located at 42201 N. 41st Drive, Suite B100, in Anthem.
The theater notes that this musical is rated PG-13 and is a satire of stereotypes. There is a song about puberty and other young adult theme jokes throughout.
