A collision Monday afternoon killed a 44-year-old man and sent three people to a hospital, Phoenix police said.
The crash occurred about 3:20 p.m. Oct. 28 near 40th and Cholla streets.
John McLaughlin died at the scene and two men and a boy were taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a Phoenix Police Department release.
Preliminary information from detectives suggests the truck driven by McLaughlin was heading north on 40th Street when, for unknown reasons, it veered into oncoming southbound lanes and ran a red light at Cholla Street.
Just after crossing Cholla Street, the truck collided with a small SUV, which was traveling south and was occupied by a man and the boy, police said.
The truck continued north until it hit a Waste Management truck, occupied by a man, before it stopped.
After being hit by the truck, the smaller SUV went off road and struck a wall, police said.
