‘Movers For Moms’ collection drive hosted by Two Men and A Truck of Mesa
Posted
To ensure moms in crisis receive the love and appreciation they deserve this Mother’s Day, Two Men and A Truck of Mesa is partnering with several local businesses to host a Movers for Moms collection drive now through May 2.
The Mesa moving company will collect essential care items for women staying at local shelters, according to a release.
Accepted donation items include new twin size sheets, gift cards to grocery stores, plastic containers of peanut butter and jelly, soup, condiments, pasta sauce, pots and pans, silverware sets, plastic dishes, personal hygiene products, toiletries, pillows, socks and non-perishable foods.
All items collected by Two Men and A Truck will be delivered to A New Leaf on May 6. The items will be delivered in time for Mother’s Day to women who may be forced to live in shelters because of domestic abuse or homelessness.
Two Men and A Truck of Mesa has a goal of collecting 800 donations during its Movers for Moms campaign.
“Mother’s Day is supposed to be a special day but for a mother that is in a shelter and in crisis, it can be really hard,” said Laura Bode, director of community engagement at A New Leaf. “What Two Men and A Truck is doing to bring comfort and joy to these moms who are in tough situations goes a long way. It makes them aware that the community is supporting them and they aren’t alone.”
One in every three women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime, and an estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault by an intimate partner each year, according to statistics from the Domestic Violence Resource Center.
Movers for Moms is a national program run by Two Men and A Truck, a moving franchise, reaching 46 states and having collected more than 233,000 items in 2021. In its 15-year program history, more than one million items have been donated to shelters supporting women.
