A Mountain Ridge High School student was hit by a truck and injuried while riding a bike to school Friday morning.
Glendale Police received multiple 911 calls about 7 a.m. Aug. 1 about a boy riding a bike that was struck by a pickup truck in the vicinty of 67th Avenue and Hillcrest Boulevard in nothern Glendale.
Initial information stated the boy, who is 13, was at one point under the vehicle. As soon as first responders arrived, medical aide began.
The boy was transported to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. The most recent medical update Friday afternoon was that he was stable but in critical condition.
Police and the Deer Valley Unified School District are unable to release the name of the student involved at this time out of respect for the student and the family's privacy
Both parents were made aware and accompanied the minor to the hospital.
There were no signs of impairment or distraction in the driver of the pickup truck, according to police. Glendale Police detectives will continue to investigate.
The road was closed for a large portion of the morning, specifically from Patrick Lane down to Deer Valley Road along northbound 67th Avenue. The roadway has since opened.
The Mountain Ridge freshman was on an E-bike, and according to police at the scene was not wearing a helmet.
Traffic violations are still being investigated. No citations or arrests have been made.
Mountain Ridge Principal David Vines sent a letter to the community Friday morning. It read, in part:
"Students were informed via an announcement that roads leading to Mountain Ridge were shut down due to a car accident. Students have been encouraged to visit the counseling office if they need support.
More information will be provided later via email and the website. We will also keep students informed as updates become available."
