The baseball gods aren’t very forgiving, though they are consistent when it comes to these two Desert Valley Region rivals.
The Mountain Ridge Mountain Lions, with the lower bracket’s 3-seed, hosted the 7-seeded Sandra Day O’Connor Eagles in a 6A state tournament elimination round Thursday in Glendale. That matchup was easy enough to see coming, based on the teams’ playoff symmetry.
The final score, a 9-3 blowout for OC, advances the Eagles to the next round. They’ll face 2-seed Alhambra, in Phoenix, who topped 11-seed Brophy Prep 8-2 on Thursday, to set up the Saturday action.
