A new exhibit is opening soon at the Pinal County Historical Museum in Florence.

The museum is hosting a grand opening for its “Mountain Lion & Natural History” exhibit at 11 a.m., on Saturday, April 29 at 715 S. Main St. The exhibit will highlight the desert’s top predator, the mountain lion, as well as Arizona’s rocks, minerals and fossils.

During the event, Arizona Game and Fish Terrestrial Wildlife Program Manager Matt Padilla will provide insight on mountain lions in Arizona. The grand opening will also include refreshments, an activity for kids and a special speaker.

“I am thrilled to share this exciting opportunity for the community to explore the natural history of our home that is nestled in the Sonoran Desert,” stated PCHM Executive Director Stephanie Joyner in a press release.

At the grand opening, the official name of the exhibit’s mountain lion will be unveiled. The name will be culled from suggestions made by the public.

All PCHM members are invited to a special members-only preview taking place an hour before the exhibit opens to the general public on April 29. The preview will include a behind-the-scenes story of how the exhibit was created.

PCHM is open from 11 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesday-Saturday. There is no admission fee for kids 18 and under.

Founded in 1958, PCHM is the oldest historical organization in Pinal County. The museum preserves Florence’s and Pinal County’s history through exhibits and educational programming.
