Motorcyclist dies after north Phoenix crash

Phoenix police are investigating a Sunday collision that left a man dead and sent another to a hospital.

The collision occurred about 2:45 p.m. near 7th Street and Deer Valley Road and involved a motorcycle and Chevrolet Malibu, police said.

The motorcyclist, 34-year-old Braiden Lawson, was rushed to a hospital and later died from his injuries. The driver of the car also was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary information indicates Lawson was speeding and headed west on Deer Valley Road, when he ran a red light and T-boned into the Malibu, according to a Phoenix Police Department release. The driver of the car was making a left-hand turn to head eastbound Deer Valley Road.
