MANSLAUGHTER CHARGE

Mother indicted for daughter’s death in I-17 rollover

A grand jury has indicted a 30-year-old woman for a rollover crash on northbound I-17 that killed her 9-year-old daughter, authorities said Monday.

Brenda Rivera Estrada on April 12 crashed her SUV on the northbound I-17 near Cactus Road. Her daughter died after being thrown from the vehicle.  Three other children were in the SUV and suffered minor injuries, according to a release from the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office.

Arizona Department of Public Safety troopers suspected the defendant had been using marijuana, but results from her blood work and the collision analysis were not immediately available, the release stated. The toxicology results came back about a month later and showed that Estrada screened positive for both marijuana and meth.
