For those entreating for more traffic enforcement in Sun City West, kindly pause and take a deep breath. Reality is there are no deputies idly cruising along the mean/gentle streets of SCW on a daily basis.
Actually, there are no deputies assigned specifically to SCW. In fact, SCW is included in a larger patrol area. Amazingly, the deputies’ response to calls for service here is excellent. Sheriff Sheridan does a superb job of allocating resources where they are needed the most.
Maricopa County is huge in terms of space and population. Leaders in law enforcement are constrained by budgets throughout the USA. These budgets are fueled by tax dollars. Not many citizens are willing to pay higher property taxes!
Currently, most law enforcement agencies are encountering difficulty in recruiting qualified candidates. These agencies are presently and grossly understaffed.
Assigning two, three or four deputies to solely address traffic violations at a specific location is exceedingly unrealistic. Crimes against property as well as crimes against persons are on the increase nearly everywhere.
