The announcement of the seizures comes a week after a Maricopa County detention officer was arrested and charged with attempting to smuggle drugs into one of the county jails.
Maricopa County Sheriff Paul Penzone announced Jan. 11 that 26-year-old detention officer Andres Salazar had been arrested for attempting to smuggle fentanyl pills and methamphetamine into the jail to distribute among inmates.
In that incident, officials found nearly 100 fentanyl pills that they said Salazar was attempting to bring inside the jail.
