Monty Python’s Spamalot gallops into Peoria's Arizona Broadway Theatre
Arizona Broadway Theatre has welcomed its new season of Broadway-style productions, beginning with Monty Python’s Spamalot, through Nov. 6.
Lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Monty Python’s Spamalot retells the legend of King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table and features a bevy of beautiful showgirls, not to mention cows, killer rabbits, and French people.
The outrageous, uproarious, and gloriously entertaining story will delight you as they search for the Holy Grail and “Always Look On The Bright Side of Life.”

Arizona Broadway Theatre has welcomed its new season of Broadway-style productions, beginning with Monty Python’s Spamalot, through Nov. 6.

If the Monty Python humor isn’t enough to entice audiences, this production features Steve McCoy starring as King Arthur. McCoy has been seen in numerous ABT productions and has performed the role of King Arthur more than any performer in the world.
“I was in the second and third national tours of Spamalot as King Arthur and got to work with the incredible director Mike Nichols,” McCoy said. “One of the reasons I love this show is the strong relationships between the characters. I love the relationship King Arthur has with Patsy, who is so devoted to him, and, of course, the Lady of the Lake, who tries to guide King Arthur towards his path every time he goes off the wrong way. She’s like his sexy fairy godmother.”
McCoy was last seen on the ABT stage as Judge Turpin in Sweeney Todd.
SpongeBob SquarePants and Buddy the Elf are also featured in this production.
Loren Stone, who astounded audiences with his talent and energy in the title role in Nickelodeon’s The SpongeBob Musical this summer, is playing the role of Patsy, King Arthur’s faithful servant.
Tyler Pirrung, who starred as ABT’s Buddy the Elf for two seasons, plays the role of Sir Robin.
“I cannot wait to return to ABT for my tenth show! I’m so excited to perform in one of my dream shows I’ve wanted to do for years!” Pirrung said. “After spending two holiday seasons as the high-energy and zany Buddy in Elf the Musical, I’m stoked to tackle this unique style of comedy that Monty Python is so famous for.”
Leading this cast is director Danny Gorman, who previously directed ABT’s productions of Gypsy, The Addams Family, and Titanic, to name a few. Gorman has no trouble leading productions of this grand scale, as he previously acted as Assistant Director for Broadway and West End productions and worked with stars such as Glenn Close, Wayne Brady, and Christian Slater, to name a few.
“I am absolutely thrilled to bring Spamalot to the Arizona Broadway Theatre. Seeing this production during its original Broadway run in 2005 was formative in my desire to pursue a career in the arts,” Gorman said.
When asked why audiences should see this production, he said, “Simply put, Spamalot is a comedic masterpiece: part spoof, part farce, and all musical spectacle. Audiences can expect side-splitting laughter as they follow King Arthur and his beloved knights. Our production and design teams have been working tirelessly to create a world that pays homage to the brilliant Monty Python canon with all the splash-bang-boom of a big Broadway musical.”
