Flash flood warnings and dipping temperatures have made this year’s monsoon distinctly different than the customary hot and dry temperatures residents saw during summer 2020.
According to the National Weather Service, there have been more than 160 flood warnings across south central and southwest Arizona since mid-June.
Derek Hodges, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Phoenix, said this year’s monsoon season started earlier than normal. Typically, the monsoon season’s official date is June 15 and ends by Sept. 30.
