‘Modest’ holiday sales season could be ahead for retailers

Valley retailers who depend on a strong jolt to get through a 2024 Christmas spending season could be in for a ho-hum holiday sales slump.

Wells Fargo economists predict a holiday sales letdown as experts “forecast holiday sales to rise just 3.3% in November and December compared with the same period last year,” according to a 2024 Holiday Sales Outlook from bank.

Retailers included in the holiday sales metric through September “have seen the slowest year-to-date sales growth” in seven years, according to the report.
