Midwestern’s Body Donation Program in Glendale gives students unique learning perspective

Research leads to scientific advancements, while also helping future professionals with their ‘first patient’

Medical students have access to any number of teaching models to prepare them for a field dedicated to healing. It’s the hands-on feel of their “first patient,” though, that makes all the difference.

Midwestern University, 19555 N. 59th Ave., opened its Body Donation Program to the public more than five years ago, and the positive response is easy to measure, particularly with the medical students themselves. A full view of one’s entire life can be analyzed scientifically to better understand future therapeutic needs and treatments.

After all, each individual has their own medical history, from surgeries to prosthetics and implants to replacements. Clinical courses at Midwestern offer students a perspective that stretches beyond the medical charts.
