Mexican food chain raises $1.7K for autism research

A Phoenix-based Mexican restaurant raised about $1,700 that will go toward autism programs and research, the chain announced in a press release.

The restaurant — Mesquite Fresh Street Mex —donated a portion of its April proceeds to the Southwest Autism Research and Resource Center from its in-person checkout and online orders at the chain's 10 locations, a press release stated.

"We're deeply grateful to the Mesquite team for once again selecting (the autism research and resource center) as (its) April charity partner," said Daniel Openden,  president and CEO of the autism research group. "Funds raised through this special campaign not only support our programs, services and research efforts but also help expand awareness of our mission within the community."
