The city of Phoenix is naming a new transit stop at the former Metrocenter mall after long-time council member Thelda Williams.
“Councilwoman Thelda Williams deserves this honor… I’m excited to see this happen,” said Councilmember Laura Pastor before the Transportation, Infrastructure and Planning Subcommittee voted unanimously to name center after Williams.
The transit center will be the end of line to a new light rail line, the Northwest Extension Phase II, that will reach the former Metrocenter mall. Construction on the line and the transit center are scheduled to be completed by the end of June. After seven months of testing, the line is scheduled to open by the end of January 2024.
