A tree-lighting ceremony and other activities to officially open Merry Main Street in downtown Mesa begins at 5:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, on Macdonald, north of Main Street.
Mesa Mayor John Giles, Mesa City Manager Chris Brady and Mesa Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Sally Harrison will speak and participate in the tree lighting. The ceremony will also include the arrival of Santa Claus on an antique Mesa fire truck, according to a release.
Merry Main Street celebrates the start of the holiday season in Mesa. Activities kick off with the lighting of Mesa’s nearly four-story Christmas tree. There will be photo opportunities with Santa, the opening of the Winter Wonderland Ice Rink at the Plaza at Mesa City Center and a live retelling at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. of “The Man Who Killed Santa Claus,” a beloved (and true!) Mesa story.
This year, Santa will be hearing gift requests inside The Post, 26 N. Macdonald, the new city-owned community and event space.
