A 34-year-old woman was arrested over the weekend in connection with a three-vehicle collision and subsequent drug-related offenses, Mesa police said.
Natalie Rustin was booked into jail on multiple felony charges, including aggravated DUI, possession of dangerous and narcotic drugs for sale and other drug-related offenses, according to a release.
The collision occurred 9 a.m. Sept. 7 at South Alma School and West Baseline roads.
Preliminary investigation and video surveillance revealed Rustin, driving a gray car, “failed to control her speed and rear-ended a stopped vehicle, which then collided with a third vehicle,” the release stated.
The drivers and passengers of the vehicles involved were evaluated for injuries, with two transported to the hospital for back and neck pain, police said.
During the initial investigation, police said, Rustin ran but returned shortly thereafter and admitted to being the driver. She told authorities she initially left because her driver’s license was suspended.
Rustin displayed signs of impairment, and after field sobriety tests were completed, she was placed under arrest for DUI, police said.
Further investigation revealed that Rustin had concealed a bag behind a nearby business containing over a half-pound of illegal drugs and drug-related items, according to the release, which added:
“Evidence, witness accounts and surveillance footage confirmed Rustin knowingly attempted to hide the drugs; the quantities and associated items were consistent with possession for sale.”
