Mesa resident turns 101 in January, offers her secrets to a long life

Residing in Mesa for the past 15 years, Evelyn Furst is about to celebrate a very special birthday.

On Jan. 17, she will be turning 101 years old. Furst was born in 1924. She’s lived through the Great Depression, World War II, the civil rights movement, the Vietnam War, the fall of the Soviet Union and many more historically defining events. It’s rare for people to reach the age of 101 and it’s even rarer to remain as active and energetic as Furst is.

A resident of the Discovery Point senior community, Furst loves to spend her days reading, taking part in Bible study, and going for walks. One wonders, what is Furst’s secret to such a healthy and long life?
