The city of Mesa is renting four garbage trucks for 13 months at a cost of $480,000 as solid-waste officials wait for 23 trucks on order to be delivered.
The Mesa City Council on Nov. 20 unanimously approved the rental for the solid waste department using a Sourcewell cooperative contract with Premier Truck Sales & Rentals Inc. as part of a consent agenda with other items.
The contract allows the city to rent garbage trucks on an as-needed basis, Business Services Director Edward Quedens and Procurement Administrator Kristy Garcia said in a memo to the council.
