Mesa puts assistant police chief under investigation

Mesa Police Department Assistant Chief Ed Wessing is under investigation for allegations of misconduct.

Wessing is being investigated for failure to obey city management policies and/or personnel rules or official city communications, according to multiple media reports.

The city of Mesa provided the following statement to the Mesa Independent regarding the investigation:

“The city does not comment on personnel matters that are under investigation. As an organization committed to ensuring a safe and respectful workplace, we take all complaints seriously and will follow established procedures to ensure due process.”

According to the city of Mesa’s website, Wessing has served with Mesa Police for nearly 30 years and served in the U.S. Marine Corps for six years before joining the department. Wessing oversees multiple divisions within the department and has worked a variety of assignments since joining.
