Mesa police said Tuesday they are developing suspect information in connection with a shooting that occurred across the street from Mendoza Elementary School.
Authorities said the victim of the shooting is expected to survive and that the school would operate normally on May 2.
Police responded to a call near Alta Mesa Drive and McClellan after receiving two calls about a shooting.
On the way to the scene, two separate callers reported a man had been shot.
One of the callers was a security guard who found that the man had been shot once.
The second caller was with the man but was not able to provide much information as her phone lost power, police said.
The victim was taken to a hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, police said.
