Mesa police have begun a two-month operation targeting driving behaviors that contributed to 44 fatal collisions and hundreds of injury crashes in 2022, authorities said.
During March and April, the Mesa Police Traffic Unit will lead Operation Safer Streets, a selective enforcement detail targeting speeding, distracted driving, unsafe vehicle operations and pedestrian violations, police said in a release.
In 2022, there were 44 fatal crashes and more than 1,000 injury collisions in the city.
The operation will occur on various dates and different times.
“We encourage the public to obey all traffic laws and especially want them to put down their electronic devices while driving,” police officials said in the release.
“Slow down, be aware of other vehicles and pedestrians entering their pathway and don’t drive impaired.”
