Two Phoenix men have been arrested as suspects in connection with a June 13 explosion from a "large firework" at a Mesa home, police said.
Daniel J. Traynor, 18, and Eliyzar R. Frias, 19, were booked on arson of an occupied structure, aggravated assault and criminal damage in the incident, which caused “extensive damage" to the front of the home near 500 West Navarro, Mesa police said Wednesday.
Mesa police officers were dispatched to the area about 9:30 p.m. June 13 regarding a “shots fired” call.
The victim reported receiving an alert from his front door camera about someone outside.
As he approached the door, he heard "a loud bang, causing the glass of his front door to shatter, leaving him with a minor injury," according to an earlier Mesa Police Department release.
“When the victim opened the door, he observed extensive damage to his front entryway, far exceeding what a gunshot would cause. The case was turned over to detectives who believed the incident involved a large firework.”
