The Mesa Police Traffic Unit will be leading the second phase of Operation Safer Streets in June and July.
“This will be a selective enforcement detail targeting driving behaviors that are contributing factors of fatal and serious injury collisions,” officials said in a release.
In 2022, there were 44 fatal collisions in Mesa and over then next two months officers “will be concentrating on contributing factors such as speeding, distracted driving, unsafe vehicle operations and pedestrian violations,” the release stated.
The enforcement detail will occur at various days and times.
“We encourage the public to obey all traffic laws and especially want them to put down their electronic devices while driving, slow down, be aware of other vehicles, motorcycles and pedestrians entering their pathway - and don’t drive impaired,” officials said.
