Mesa PD continues investigation after man suffers electric shock at SRP substation

A man remained in critical condition Tuesday after police said he suffered severe burns when he entered a Salt River Project substation in Mesa and appeared to have tampered with electrical equipment.

Officers responded about 5 a.m. June 21 to Everton Terrace and Elliot Road after receiving a 911 call from a man requesting assistance, according to a Mesa Police Department release. The man was found suffering from severe burns.

“The investigation revealed that the man had gained access to an SRP electrical substation in that area and appeared to have tampered with electrical equipment before being electrocuted. SRP confirmed that the individual was not an employee of SRP,” the release stated.
