Mesa man dies following June assault in Chandler

Posted

Police have confirmed that a Mesa man who was assaulted while doing work at a home in Chandler has died, but authorities do not know if his death was the result of the June 12 incident near McQueen and Cooper roads.

A 33-year-old man was arrested following the assault, Chandler police said.

The suspect was identified as Eric Lartigue, 33, of Chandler. The victim was identified as Daniel Lopez, 70, of Mesa, according to an earlier release from Chandler authorities.

Chandler police responded June 12 to a neighborhood near McQueen and Cooper roads after receiving reports of an assault.

Police found an injured 70-year-old man who was doing work at a home. Police said they learned a man had confronted the victim, assaulted him and then stole the victim’s vehicle before leaving.

Lartigue was arrested and booked for aggravated assault and vehicle theft, police said.
