Mesa introducing trap, neuter and return program to control feral cat populations

The city of Mesa is introducing a specialized program to deal with the growing population of feral cats in the city.

Called the trap, neuter and return program, and set to launch sometime in December, it involves Mesa residents collaborating with the city and animal control to trap feral cats, take them to the veterinarian to get spayed or neutered, and then returned to their original colony.

This humane method, according to the city of Mesa’s website, helps to control feral cat populations by limiting their growth, minimizing behaviors such as spraying, yowling and fighting, and helping end the increase of unwanted cats in a community.
